Dapple the Donkey Tail (Sedum morganianum)

Look at that pretty little thing.

It's a Donkey Tail (Sedum morganianum) - one of the few of my daughter's succulents that were clearly identifiable as one thing.

Some people confuse these with a Burro's tail, but that's a different plant altogether.

Dapple the Donkey Tail
This is what Dapple looks like when it arrived.  This little guy will lose its leaves, if you look at it funny.

He'd lost a few leaves in transport, but was not really looking much worse for for the wear.

One of the first leaves that fell, immediately sprouted a new little plant.

Baby Dapple

Encouraged by the early success, I trimmed Dapple's scraggly branches that had missing leaves.  Like any self-respecting succulent would, Dapple immediately changed its mind about the ease in which it would allow to be propagated.

The next set of 20 leaves either dried or rotted before the next little baby sprouted. But then we had another success.

The miracle of babies - even plant babies.

Now I just need to not lose the little thing!

See Kiddo, he's doing fine.  And Dapple is still handsome despite that little haircut. Stay tuned for news about the grandkids.
